The Things We Do for Love (and Dentures)
When they returned to look for them, the man suspected his wife’s dentures had been thrown away, so he searched the trash cans in the store. Then he found the trash cans had been emptied into the dumpster, so he went outside to look.
Despite the height of the dumpster–and a warning from a Dunkin’ Donuts employee–the man decided to go in and look for his wife’s dentures. And who says chivalry is dead?
He climbed up some pallets that had been stacked beside the dumpster, and jumped in. However, after searching for a while, the man couldn’t find the dentures and decided to come out. Except that he couldn’t. The dumpster was too high. The wife alerted Dunkin’ Donuts employees, who called for help.
What Goes Great with Donuts?
Firefighters and police responded to the emergency call, led by firefighter Joseph Coffey. That’s right, they called for help at the Dunkin’ Donuts and got “coffee.” He and the other responders positioned ladders in order to help the man out of the dumpster, then joined in the search.
Unfortunately, they were unable to find the dentures. As reported, the Waukesha Fire Department said they don’t mind helping search for lost items of value, but encourage people to contact them before jumping in a dumpster.

Although humorous, this story also has an important lesson. Many people with dentures find them so uncomfortable to wear that they take them out to eat or drink. This not only defeats part of the purpose of dentures–which are supposed to help you eat, and should be functional especially for soft food like coffee and donuts–but increases the risk that you will lose them, as in the story.
