For example, the teeth that we use in FOY® Dentures are better than those you might find in many dentures.
A Quick Solution to Denture Teeth
Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) became the most popular denture material shortly after World War II because it had the benefit that it could be used to make not just the denture base, but the teeth as well. At the time, the best looking denture teeth were made of a very fragile version of porcelain.
But with PMMA, the teeth could be made of the same plastic as the base. Since the material’s inexpensive, the teeth would be, too, and since it’s relatively durable, the teeth would be, too. With the same material on both sides, bonding the base and the teeth together was easy. But there are tradeoffs. First, denture teeth made of plastic look like plastic. The coloration can be pretty good (but it isn’t always), but the luster gives the plastic away.
Another problem with PMMA is that it isn’t as good at getting or maintaining a cutting edge as ceramics. They can dull quite quickly if demands are put on them.
A Brighter Option
But if you’re looking for a denture with teeth that really shine, you’re looking for teeth made of advanced ceramic materials. The teeth in FOY® Dentures are made by Ivoclar Vivident, one of the leading manufacturers of porcelain veneers and other cosmetic dentistry prosthetics. They apply the same cosmetic and performance standards to denture teeth as to their cosmetic dentistry products.
The teeth in FOY® Dentures have the same luster as natural tooth enamel.
And these teeth come in a full range of colors to match the diversity of natural teeth. The coloration is complex and layered, making them look even more natural.
A Smile That’s Completely Yours
Another benefit of these advanced teeth is that they’re a lot more customizable than the teeth that come in economy dentures. In economy dentures, the teeth are premolded and designed with the denture–they’re likely the same set of denture teeth that were designed for your neighbor and many other people with cheap dentures.
But with FOY® Dentures, we can customize your individual teeth to make them as much like your natural smile as you want. Teeth can be rotated, crooked, chipped–whatever you want, you can do it.
At the Cutting Edge
And, of course, one of the main reasons you want your dentures for is to be able to eat with them, and that depends on the quality of your teeth. You want teeth that can get and maintain a sharp edge for cutting your food. And the ceramic teeth are much better at this than the plastic ones. Just think of the difference between a plastic knife and a ceramic one. Which one does a better job of cutting, and which one holds its edge better?
If there’s one thing that dentures and horses have in common, it’s that you can judge the quality of each by looking at their teeth. To find out about dentures that you can feel more comfortable and confident in, please contact a local FOY® Dentures dentist today.
